Former President Akuffo Addo Installed as Honorary Lay Canon in Koforidua

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as an Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua during a solemn service held at the St. Peter Anglican Cathedral.

The installation took place on Passion Sunday, the fifth Sunday in Lent, following what the former President described as a “prayerful consideration.” The honour recognizes his longstanding contributions to public service and social justice.

As an Honorary Lay Canon within the Anglican Communion, Nana Addo is expected to undertake special responsibilities in areas including health, evangelism, education, investments, tourism, and hospitality. The role also reflects the Church’s appreciation of his commitment to national development and faith-based service.

In his remarks, the former President expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, noting that his life’s journey has been a testament to God’s grace. He referenced the biblical passage in the Gospel of Matthew 19:26, stating: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to continued service to the Church, pledging to live a life of faith, support the mission of the Church, and pray for its growth both locally and globally, particularly within the Diocese and the West African Province.

The former President also extended appreciation to Felix Odei Annancy and the clergy of the Diocese for the honour, as well as to the broader Anglican community in Ghana and across the world.

The Church of the Province of West Africa continues to play a significant role in spiritual development and social transformation across the region, with recognitions such as this highlighting the intersection of faith and public leadership.
