Swiss Super League side FC Zurich have officially announced the departure of Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
The 24-year-old attacker, who joined the club in 2023, made 50 appearances during his stint in Zurich, scoring two goals in the Swiss top flight. Despite flashes of promise, Barnieh struggled to cement a regular starting role in the team and has now been released ahead of the summer transfer window.
In a brief statement, the club thanked the Ghanaian international for his service and wished him the best in his future endeavours.

Barnieh, a former captain of Ghana’s U-20 national team and a product of Accra Hearts of Oak, had been viewed as a rising star in Ghanaian football before making his move to Europe. His versatility and work ethic earned him a place in the senior national team, the Black Stars, and he featured in several international fixtures, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Now a free agent, Barnieh is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe, Asia, and Africa, with agents already exploring options for his next move.
As he enters the next chapter of his career, many Ghanaian fans will be watching closely, hopeful that the talented forward can reignite his career and fulfill the promise he showed during his early rise
