Vice President calls for leadership development in Africa’s public universities to promote academic freedom 

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged Academic Staff Associations (ASAs) across Africa to ensure leadership development in their public universities to promote academic freedom and democratisation.  She said such an approach will help consolidate not only intellectual discourse but promote networking and collaboration, advocacy and representation, dissemination of knowledge, standards-setting and accreditation among others. Richard Ellimah elected as new PIAC Chairperson

Members of the Public Interest Accountability Committee have elected Mr Richard Ellimah as their new Chairperson for the next one year. The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) representative takes over from Mr Constantine K. M. Kudzedzi, a lawyer representing Christian groups on the committee. Mr Ellimah is a community activist, a development planner, and natural resource governance analyst with almost two decades of experience, particularly in Ghana’s natural resource space. The Queen Mother of Kwahu has been released on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) following an operation carried out by some police officers earlier this morning. In a statement, the IGP directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the operation.
