The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has cut the sod for the construction of a 2.1-kilometer road from Budo City junction to Bogoso junction in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
The project valued at GH¢11. 6 million is slated for two years but the contractor has assured the Foundation that it would be completed within a year.
The works to be undertaken include, the construction of culverts, gutters, pavement, road markings, speed ramps and multiple layers of sealing for durability.

Addressing a gathering at the event, Mr Abdel-Razak Yakubu, the Executive Secretary of GFGF, said one of the pillars of the Foundation was infrastructure development, and that they have been tasked to champion this cause in the communities they operated in.
According to him, the traditional leaders of New Atuabo, a host community they resettled 20 years ago, approached the GFGF with a request to reconstruct the road connecting their community to Bogoso junction.
Mr Yakubu indicated that during the construction of the Tarkwa-Takoradi highway, people spent several hours in traffic, adding, this new bypass when completed would ease congestion and save a lot of time.
“So, if you are coming from Bogoso, Aboso or Damang, and you don’t have any business doing at the Tarkwa main station, just use the bypass we are constructing, emerge at New Atuabo and continue your journey” he explained
The executive secretary noted that “The equipment already on site clearly indicate that the contractor is committed to getting the job done. The foundation is also well equipped financially to push the project as fast as the contractor wants to go”.
Mr Yakubu revealed that the Foundation worked closely with the technocrats in the Assembly to ensure that the project met the highest standards, adding, “in fact, the design of the road and everything was done by the Urban Roads Engineer”.
Mr Derrick Obeng, the Urban Roads Engineer for Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, said the stretch from Budo City junction to Bogoso junction had no bypass, made traffic congestion unbearable.
He said the new route would provide a convenient alternative for travelers and residents of New Atuabo heading to Bogoso junction, Kwabedu, and its surrounding areas.
Mr Obeng praised the GFGF for collaborating with the urban roads department from the inception of the project, saying they would continue to work together to ensure the road met all specifications and quality standards.
Mr Issah Salifu Taylor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency on his part, commended and thanked the GFGF for their outstanding performance in the constituency.
He said considering the amount of money invested into the project, they all needed to come on board and monitor the project closely regardless of their political affiliations.
Mr Taylor also indicated that, “We have consistently advocated that to build the Ghana we desire, unity and collective participation are essential for a country that we can leave behind for our children, where they can grow and prosper”.
Mr Ebenezer Cobbinah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsuaem, appealed to the contractor to do his best to complete the project within the stipulated time.
Nana Kwaku Baah, Chief of New Atuabo, expressed gratitude to the GFGF and pointed out that they would not pay compensation to anyone whose structure would be affected by the project.
