The Savannah Regional Police Intelligence Department has arrested twenty-two (22) Togolese nationals for their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities within the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region. The arrest was carried out on Thursday, January 23, 2026, when a police intelligence team intercepted a Kia truck with registration number BA 223-12 during a routine operation. The vehicle was being driven by one Abdul Majeed Yakubu, who is currently assisting police with investigations. According to police sources, preliminary interrogation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle identified themselves as nationals of Togo.
