Okada rider jailed 15yrs for snatching phone in front of IGP

A 21-year-old Okada Rider, Emmanuel Waki has been sentenced to serve 15 years jail term after pleading guilty to robbing a bystander of his mobile phone in front of the Police CID Headquarters. The incident which occurred on December 19, last year, is said to have been witnessed by the Inspector General of Police and his bodyguards who were then returning from routine observational duties. Emmanuel Waki, who is affectionately called Pocket, was given a hot chase which led to the arrest of Salifu Alhaji, also Okada rider, who then led the police to arrest Waki at Old Fadama. Waki pleaded guilty simpliciter (without any explanation) on December 23 before the Circuit Court and was convicted on his own plea while his sentence was deferred to today, Wednesday, December 04, 2023. ...

GES to review mobile phone usage in schools

Stakeholders in the education sector are considering reviewing the ban on mobile phone usage in schools. Mrs Esther Jones Safo, Ga North Municipal Director of Education, who disclosed this in Accra on Thursday, said the review would be done so that mobile phones could be used strictly for academic purposes. E.P. Educational Centre receives visually impaired user friendly mobile phones

The New Horizon Evangelical Presbyterian Educational Centre for the Blind in Ho, has taken delivery of 15 visually impaired user friendly mobile phones from Ms Bettina Afi Hewlett, a friend of the Centre. The Centre was also given two desktop computers, one box of hand sanitizers, 100 pieces of nose masks, bags of rice, 15 bottles of cooking oil, and 30 canned fishes. Ms Hewlett said the gesture was aimed at helping children with visual impairment and their teachers to continue with their academic work at home in the wake of COVID-19. She said visually impaired children could do well academically when they had access to user friendly software such as tablet and computers that could convert normal texts into braille.
