Ghana Moves to Acquire and Preserve Nkrumah’s Former Residence in Guinea

The Government of Ghana has initiated negotiations with the family of Guinea’s first President, Ahmed Sékou Touré, to enable Ghana take possession of the house where Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah lived and worked during his final years as Co-President of Guinea. The move, undertaken on the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama, is aimed at renovating and preserving the historic residence as part of efforts to honour Nkrumah’s legacy and deepen Pan-African heritage tourism. The Mahama Administration plans to transform the property into a preserved landmark that will allow visitors to trace the life and leadership journey of Ghana’s first President from Ghana to Guinea. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has hailed Ghana's founding President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his peers for their pioneering roles in Pan-Africanism and Africa's decolonisation. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is the most visited tourist site in Ghana   

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has maintained its status as the most visited tourist attraction in Ghana, accounting for 20 per cent of total arrivals.   The 2024 Ghana Tourism Report, launched by the Ghana Tourism Authority, in Accra, said the Park recorded a total of 333,233 visitors in the year under review, comprising 297,730 residents and 40,503 nonresidents.   The park, for the second-year running, beat other tourist attractions to be the first of the top 10 most visited sites in the country.   It accounted for a significant proportion of overall visitation, with residents forming the bulk of the visitors across most locations, the report said.   The Kakum National Park (Canopy Walk), came second with a total of 183,757, out of which 154,192...

The fountains are working, new irrigation system in place – Nkrumah Park Director assures

The management of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park says it is installing new irrigation systems to augment water flow to enhance the functioning of the fountains and irrigate the lawns to beautify the park.   News in circulation a week ago indicated that the lawns had dried up, washrooms were unkept and the beautiful fountains were bereft of water. Mr Edward Quao, the Acting Director of the Park, said water flow from the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to the Park was a challenge, hence the need to install a new irrigation system to augment the flow.
