January 8: Ghana Host Namibia in Pre Afcon Friendly

Ghana will play Namibia in a pre-AFCON friendly at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, January 8, 2024 as part of the build up to the biennial showpiece in Cote D’Ivoire. Both Ghana and Namibia will use the game to prepare for Africa's flagship tournament that kicks off on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Abidjan. Namibia, replacement for Botswana are expected to test the strength of Chris Hughton’s team ahead of the championship. Ghana will face Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in Group B, while, Namibia clash with Tunisia, Mali and South Africa in Group E. Prosper Ogum wins GPL NASCO coach of the month for January

Asante Kotoko Head Coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has won the NASCO Coach of the Month Award for the second time this season. Coach Ogum who won the November edition of the monthly awards, lead his team to an unbeaten ran throughout January. Out of five matches played, Asante Kotoko won four matches and drew one. With his sides impressive record, Coach Ogum beat off competition from Umar Abdul Rabi of Medeama SC, Karela FC’s Bismark Kobby Mensah and Coach Kassim Mingle of Bechem United. Franck Mbella Etouga wins NASCO player for the month of January

Asante Kotoko forward Franck Mbella Etouga has been named as NASCO Player of the Month for January. Etouga who is leading the Ghana Premier League Topscorer’s chat scored five goals in January. The Cameroonian forward was also adjudged as Most Valuable Player in two matches. Etouga was adjudged winner after beating off competition from Yaw Annor of Ashantigold and Umar Bashiru of Karela FC. He is expected to receive a NASCO television set from Electroland Ghana Limited.

Producer Price Inflation for January 2021 is 9.1 per cent

The year-on-year Producer Price Inflation (PPI) rate for January 2021, was up at 9.1 per cent compared to seven percent in December. The rate represents a 2.1 percentage point increase in producer inflation relative to the rate recorded in December 2020 (7.0 per cent). Professor Samuel Annim, the Government Statistician, who announced this in a virtual recording, said the month-on-month change in producer price index between December 2020 and January 2021 was 3.5 per cent. The Producer Price Inflation in the Mining and Quarrying sub-sector decreased by 4.1 percentage points over the December 2020 rate of 31.5 percent to record 27.4 percent in January 2021. Export application under AfCFTA through ICUMS to start January 18

Application processes through the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) for export under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is to commence on January 18,2021. This was announced by Mr Fechin Akoto, Assistant Commissioner of Customs in charge of Tariff and Trade, and responsible for Free Trade Agreements including AfCFTA, in a media interaction. He indicated that the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was currently assisting the exporters on the necessary processes, as well as all key information regarding trading in the AfCFTA.
