Ghana Bar Association descends on Sosu for ‘political judges’ comment

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has condemned comments by Madina MP, Francis-Xavier Sosu, for allegedly referring to some members of the bench as “political judges”. In a statement, the GBA said the alleged comment by Mr. Sosu, who is also a member of the Bar, suggests that the tenure of office of judges is tied to the tenure of the political regime under which judges are appointed, and further that “political judges will be treated politically”. Mr. Sosu made is said to have made the comment during an interview he granted to the media, according to the GBA. President of Ghana Bar Association: Let’s address all sources of tensions ahead of elections

Mr Anthony Forson, the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Tuesday said it is imperative for all national stakeholders to work in concert towards addressing every source of tension as the country approaches the 2020 General Election. “We call upon all the actors, especially those in the political space, to conduct their activities with the view of ensuring smooth and peaceful elections,” he said. “All actors must constantly remind themselves of their duty to be responsible citizens and be each other’s keeper and ensure that the vulnerable in society are helped and covered”.
