
The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of Mr. John Abban at Asemkor, a community in the Agona Nkwanta District of the Western Region.
According to a statement issued by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, Superintendent Olivia E. T. Adiku, the incident occurred on October 6, 2025, following a chieftaincy dispute in the area. The deceased, Mr. Abban, was reportedly the brother of the Chief of Butre and Asemkor.
Following the incident, the suspects fled the community and went into hiding. However, through sustained intelligence operations conducted by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, three of the suspects — Kennedy Abor, alias Abongo (30), Kojo Attah Panyi (20), and Joseph Basses (30) — were arrested on October 15, 2025, at their hideout in Funko, near Takoradi.


Subsequently, on October 21, 2025, the Regional Intelligence Directorate, in collaboration with the Accra Regional Intelligence Directorate, apprehended the two main suspects, identified as Abraham Cudjoe, alias Yalle (39), and Ekow Painstil (45), at Afuaman Ayigbe Town within the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
All five suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining peace and security in the region.
