The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful organization of its presidential primaries, describing the process as peaceful and well-conducted.
In a statement issued in Accra on Saturday, February 1, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the NDC acknowledged the emergence of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the December 2028 general elections.
The opposition party also commended the Ghana Police Service for what it described as a “remarkable and efficient” security operation that ensured a violence-free electoral process throughout the primaries.

According to the NDC, the peaceful conduct of the NPP’s internal elections reflects the collective responsibility of political parties to uphold democratic values and strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
The statement further welcomed collaboration among political parties, including the NPP, in the shared national effort to deepen democratic governance.
The NDC also noted the concession statements issued by candidates who were unsuccessful in the primaries and expressed hope that such reconciliatory gestures would translate into genuine unity within the NPP.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political participation and respect for democratic processes as Ghana prepares for future elections.
