The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee as part of preparations toward the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026.
The meeting was held to enable the Taskforce receive official notification of the elections and gather critical information, including the election timetable, venues, and the scope of related activities. These details, officials said, are necessary to facilitate comprehensive security planning and coordination.
Speaking during the engagement, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, emphasized the importance of early consultations with political parties ahead of internal elections. He noted that such engagements are key to ensuring effective coordination, risk assessment, and overall preparedness by security agencies.

The IGP assured the NPP Presidential Election Committee that the Ghana Police Service, working together with other security agencies, would collaborate closely with the Electoral Commission and the party to implement appropriate security measures. According to him, the goal is to guarantee a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
Mr Yohuno further reiterated the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to work with all relevant stakeholders to maintain law, order, and public safety before, during, and after the elections.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts by the Taskforce to promote stability and security in Ghana’s electoral processes, including internal party elections, which play a critical role in the country’s democratic governance.
