King Charles III has extended warm Independence Day greetings to the government and people of Ghana, highlighting the enduring partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom and the importance of cooperation within the Commonwealth of Nations.
In a message addressed to President John Dramani Mahama to mark Ghana’s Independence Day, the British monarch said he and his wife sent their “warmest congratulations” to the West African nation.
“On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Ghana,” the King stated.

Longstanding Partnership
King Charles noted that the relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom remains strong and rooted in shared values and mutual respect under the Commonwealth.
He also referenced a recent visit to Accra by his brother, Prince Edward, expressing gratitude for the hospitality extended during the trip and for discussions on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
According to the King, the Ghanaian diaspora living in the UK continues to play a significant role in strengthening the relationship between the two nations. He acknowledged their contributions across various sectors including business, education, arts, and culture.
Commonwealth Unity and Global Cooperation
The monarch highlighted the importance of unity among Commonwealth member states, particularly in addressing global challenges.
“The Commonwealth’s rich diversity and the energy of its younger generations continue to inspire hope and progress,” he said, adding that collective strength and unity are increasingly vital amid global uncertainty.
King Charles also expressed anticipation for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled for November, where leaders are expected to reaffirm shared commitments and discuss future collaboration.
Cooperation on Climate and Sustainability
The King further commended ongoing cooperation between the UK and Ghana over the past year, particularly in tackling climate-related challenges.
He welcomed progress made through a new memorandum of understanding on sustainable forest management aimed at protecting nature while supporting livelihoods in both urban and rural communities.
Best Wishes for Ghana
Concluding his message, King Charles said he and Queen Camilla wished all Ghanaians peace and prosperity in the year ahead.
“My wife and I join in extending our very best wishes to you and to all Ghanaians for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead,” he said.
Ghana celebrates its Independence Day on March 6 each year to commemorate its liberation from British colonial rule in 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence.
