Stonebwoy Urges Fans to Support ‘Make Africa Borderless Now’ Campaign at Ghana’s 69th Independence Concert

Thousands of music fans gathered in the scenic city of Ho witnessed more than just an electrifying concert earlier this dawn as Ghana marked its 69th Independence Day.

In a powerful moment during his performance, celebrated Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy paused his set to call on the crowd to support the “Make Africa Borderless Now” (#MABN) campaign — a movement advocating for the free movement of people, goods, capital, services, and culture across the African continent.

Standing before thousands of fans, the award-winning musician urged the audience to take out their mobile phones, scan a QR code displayed at the venue, and sign a petition calling on African leaders to implement existing agreements that promote continental integration.

The dramatic moment symbolized the growing role of music and culture in driving social and political conversations across Africa.

Push for a Borderless Africa

The campaign seeks to pressure African governments to fully implement treaties and protocols they have already signed under the framework of the Abuja Treaty.

The treaty, signed in 1991, aims to establish the African Economic Community by promoting economic cooperation and integration among African nations. Advocates say its full implementation would accelerate the creation of a single African market serving more than 1.5 billion people across 55 economies.

Webinar to Mark Ghana @ 69

As part of the Independence Day activities, Stonebwoy — a proud ambassador of the #MABN movement is expected to participate in a special webinar organized by the Africa Prosperity Network later today at 14:00 GMT.

The webinar, themed “From Africa’s Independence to Integration,” will bring together policymakers, business leaders, and advocates to discuss the future of African unity and economic integration.

Participants are expected to reflect on the vision of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, who championed Pan-African unity and economic cooperation across the continent.

A Call to the Current Generation

Organizers say the campaign raises an important question for today’s leaders and citizens alike:

What is preventing the current generation from implementing the Abuja Treaty and accelerating the creation of a truly integrated African market?

Supporters of the initiative believe the removal of barriers between African states would unlock massive economic opportunities, enhance trade, and deepen cultural connections across the continent.

As Ghana celebrates nearly seven decades of independence, campaigners argue that the next step in Africa’s journey is true continental integration.

The public has been invited to join the webinar and contribute to the conversation about Africa’s economic future and unity.
