Ghana and the United Kingdom are set to strengthen their historical and inseparable ties following a high-level meeting between Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and The Rt Hon Yvette Cooper (MP), UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
The engagement, described by officials as “exceptionally fruitful and substantive,” focused on deepening Ghana-UK relations and exploring innovative strategies to expand trade, which has already increased by 10%. Both sides discussed creating new markets for Ghanaian and UK businesses and incubating opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
Security cooperation and counterterrorism initiatives were also central topics, signaling the two nations’ commitment to regional stability and collaborative security efforts.

To sustain these gains, Ghana and the UK will host a grand investment summit in May 2026, under the distinguished patronage of President John Mahama, aimed at promoting trade, investment, and strategic partnerships between the countries.
“This meeting underscores our determination to solidify a strategic alliance that benefits businesses, citizens, and young innovators in both Ghana and the UK,” said Foreign Minister Ablakwa.
The renewed collaboration marks a significant step in revitalizing Ghana-UK relations, highlighting shared economic, security, and diplomatic priorities for the years ahead.
