Suspect remanded over immigration officer’s murder

Bright Aweh has appeared before the Kaneshie District Court over the alleged murder of Ghana Immigration Service officer, Stephen King Amoah. Aweh, also known as Robert or Highest Bright, faces a provisional charge of murder. His plea was not taken, and he was remanded into police custody to reappear on August 8, 2025. Chief Inspector Apewa Achana, leading the prosecution, requested the remand to allow for further investigations. Mr. Amoah went missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estates. His charred body was discovered days later in a drain at Aboum Junction near Kwabenya. Gold smuggling suspects granted bail

Ten Chinese nationals arrested for allegedly conspiring to smuggle gold out of Ghana have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. Each of the accused—Wu Cheng Tei, Tang Da Tien, Wang Chun Ling, Wei Dong, Li Fu Shou, Wei Sheng Xin, He Shi Long, Li Ren Neng, Fang Zhun Sheng and Zheng Xi Chuang—was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties. Presiding Judge Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah ordered that the sureties must include a civil servant earning no less than GH¢10,000 monthly, a Chinese national resident in Ghana for over five years, and a Ghanaian citizen. MOFA commits four million Euros to boost shea nuts production

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has committed four million euros to boost shea production and enhance producer capacity this year. “We from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture have committed four million euros to build the capacity of our producers of shea to increase the production of nuts this year,” said Mr. Eric Opoku, Minister of MoFA. Ashanti Region: Kusasi Chief shot dead by unknown assailants at Asawase

Mr. Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Divisional Chief of Kadi in Binduri, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday night (July 22) in a tragic and brazen attack. According to eyewitness accounts, two unidentified men riding a motorbike arrived at the chief’s residence near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre at approximately 2040 hours. One of the attackers, reportedly wielding an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the chief, before they both fled the scene. Ashanti Business Owners Reject Claims of Selling Fake Insecticides  

The Ashanti Business Owners Association has refuted claims by the police that some of its members are involved in the distribution of counterfeit insecticide products.   On Friday, the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested three shop owners and distributors in Kumasi, suspected of retailing fake insecticides. The arrests followed a complaint by Evergreen Chemist Limited, the sole importer of the UK-manufactured Kill It insecticide in Ghana.   The police operation, led by the Regional Command, led to the seizure of the suspected counterfeit products from shops located in Adum and Tech. The amount of GH¢10,000.00 is to be used to acquire an indenture and protect the lands for future expansion projects.
