The Ashanti Regional Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned and distanced itself from comments attributed to Honourable Kwaku Asante Boateng, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, suggesting that the Ashantis historically “used slaves for war” and that such people and their descendants are not entitled to leadership positions within the Party.
In a statement issued by the Caucus, the group described the comments as “deeply offensive” and contrary to the principles of unity, respect, and equality that define the NPP.
“The Ashanti Regional Caucus completely disassociates itself from this narrative and condemns it in no uncertain terms,” the statement read.

The Caucus reaffirmed that the NPP was founded on freedom, equality of opportunity, and inclusivity, emphasizing that the Party rewards merit, loyalty, and service—not lineage, tribe, or religion. It added that every member of the Party, regardless of background, has an equal right to aspire to any leadership position.
“The Ashanti Region, as the bedrock of the NPP, rejects any attempt to use history, tribe, or identity to divide our ranks or question the belonging of any loyal member. Such rhetoric undermines the unity and cohesion that have been the foundation of our Party’s success over the years,” the Caucus noted.
The statement further reminded Party members that in all mature democracies, political organizations act decisively against utterances that inflame ethnic or religious tensions. It urged NPP members, especially those in leadership positions, to exercise restraint and decorum in their public statements.
“Our focus must remain on strengthening the NPP and advancing the collective progress of our Party and nation at large,” the Caucus concluded.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Parliamentary Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to national unity, peace, and inclusivity, stressing that it stands firmly for a united Party and a united Ghana.
