Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has described the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as one of the most impactful Ghanaian women of her generation, whose legacy championed the advancement and empowerment of women.
At her solemn burial service on Friday, 28th November 2025, the former President hailed her as “the embodiment of the women’s struggle for self-empowerment”, noting that her activism and influence transcended Ghana to reach the wider African continent.
President Akufo-Addo also fondly recalled appointing Nana Konadu to lead Ghana’s delegation to South Africa in 2018 for the funeral of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, despite her not being a supporter or affiliate of his administration at the time.

“She was not a member or sympathiser of my government,” he remarked, “but I believed, as I still do, that she was the most appropriate Ghanaian woman to undertake that assignment.”
He further celebrated her personality, describing her as vivacious and intellectually engaging, adding that he enjoyed her sharp wit and presence.
Alongside his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the former President extended heartfelt condolences to her children Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina, and Kimathi — her extended family, and the entire nation.
In a deeply spiritual tribute, President Akufo-Addo prayed for Nana Konadu’s soul, committing her to divine rest.
“I asked God to bless her and give her soul a peaceful place of abode in His Bosom until the Last Day of the Resurrection… when we shall all meet again.”, he said, concluding with Amen.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who served as Ghana’s longest-tenured First Lady, passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a towering legacy in public service, maternal health advocacy, and women’s political activism.
Her burial drew national attention, with foreboding tributes pouring in from political leaders, civil society actors, and citizens who recognized her enduring contributions to nation-building.
