The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning each convict will serve 25 years in prison.
The Incident
According to police reports, the crime occurred in the early hours of 23rd September 2025, when a DAF trailer truck transporting bags of fertilizer from Tema to Wa broke down at Asempaneye and was left at a vulcanizing shop for repairs.
Around 1:30 a.m., the three armed men, wielding an axe, a machete, and a pair of scissors, attacked the driver and his mate. They made away with:
- A Samsung A24 Ultra smartphone valued at GHC 14,000
- An Itel smartphone valued at GHC 400
- An Itel keypad phone valued at GHC 100
- Two bags containing personal belongings
- GHC 140 in cash
Their attempt was, however, short-lived as the youth of Asempaneye mobilized quickly to apprehend them. All stolen items were recovered, and during police investigations, the suspects admitted to the crime.
Police Commendation
The Ashanti North Police Command has commended the vigilance and cooperation of the Asempaneye community in ensuring the swift arrest of the criminals.
In a statement signed by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Staff Officer of the Command, the police assured the public of their unwavering commitment to fighting crime, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
The convicts have since been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their custodial sentences.
