Police Arrest Woman for Baby Stealing and Theft in Wa

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old woman, Abena Martha Maanibeh, for allegedly stealing a one-week-old baby and other personal belongings of the child’s mother at the Wa market, popularly known as Kejetia. According to police reports, the complainant, Ms. Kwofie Mwinbelle, delivered a baby boy at the Wa Regional Hospital on August 1, 2025, where the suspect was posing as a caretaker for another patient. On August 10, 2025, Maanibeh deceitfully convinced the new mother to accompany her to the Wa market to buy baby diapers. Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Brother in Kwesimintim

The Police in the Kwesimintim District of the Western Region have arrested Anthony Acquah for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old brother, Francis Mensah, at Mampong-Pepease, a suburb of Sekondi. According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday, 16th August 2025, around 6:00 p.m., when a misunderstanding broke out between the suspect and his younger brother. During the altercation, Acquah allegedly stabbed Francis, leading to his death. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the act and went into hiding. The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has organised a mid-year religious Thanksgiving Service at the forecourt of its Headquarters at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. Police in the Half Assini Division have successfully rescued a 12-year-old boy who was subjected to horrific abuse in a widely circulated video on social media. The disturbing footage showed the minor tied with a nylon rope and suspended from the roof of a building while being severely beaten by two men in the New Ankasa community, near Elubo in the Western Region. Three Arrested in Western Region for Possession of Illegal Arms

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition in Bowodie-Wassa Akropong, located in the Western Region of Ghana. The suspects, identified as Hakeem Imoro, Imoro Tahiru, and Nurideen Wahab, were apprehended while traveling on a Grand Bird Bus with registration number AS 4431-22, which was heading toward Wassa Akropong. During a search, police discovered a submachine gun (SMG) and twenty-one (21) rounds of ammunition in the possession of Hakeem Imoro. Seven Arraigned for Illegal Mining in Western Region; Two Chinese Nationals Also Arrested

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arraigned seven individuals before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi on charges related to illegal mining activities. The accused—identified as Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto alias Agorogo, Kwadwo George alias Sergio, and Emmanuel Van alias Atta—have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and engaging in mining operations without a valid license. Following their appearance in court, the suspects were remanded into prison custody and are expected to reappear on 17th April 2025. Fire incidents in Western Region down by 12 per cent in 2024

The Western Region recorded a decline in fire incidents last year by 12 per cent from 361 cases in 2023 to 317 in 2024. Reports from the Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) showed that there was also a decrease in fire-related injuries and fatalities from 184 injuries in 2023 to 30 in 2024. The number of fire related death also reduced from 20 in 2023 to 14 in 2024. Olam Agri screens over 1000 bakers in Western Region  

Olam Agri, a Multinational Agri Business, has organised a health screening exercise for more than a 1000 bakers in the Western Region.  The Healthy Baker initiative conducted annually was to ensure that the bakers were healthy and fit to bake healthy pastries for the consuming public.   “Our screening is done annually dubbed “healthy Baker” but this year we decided to introduce breast screening for the women to be examined,” Mr Kwabena Owusu, the Communications Officer of Olam Agric told the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi.  The exercise, zoned within 24 areas in the Region, was expected to screen about 1000 bakers by the end of February 2025.  He said about 7,000 bakers are expected to be screened in Greater Accra, Western, Central and Ashanti Regions.  ...
