NGO engages Fulbe community to promote social cohesion 

The Innovations for Sustainable Rural Development (ISRuDev) has engaged the Fulbe people in selected communities in the Wa West District to promote social cohesion between the Fulbe and the indigenes.  The engagement, held at Chogsia, brought together about 60 Fulbe people and traditional leaders from ISRuDev’s 13 operational communities, including Chogsia, Anyorikura, Dakori, Motori, Gbaaliwob, and Meteu.  The initiative formed part of the organisation’s focus on promoting gender and social inclusion within communities.   It also sought to foster peaceful coexistence among residents as a means of driving community development.  Speaking at the engagement, Mr Maxwell Kpetaa, the Business Development Officer of ISRuDev, noted that the Fulbe community had not ...

NGO empowers young girls to fight child marriage, SGBV

The Purim for African Youth Development Platform (PURIM), a non-governmental organisation, has empowered vulnerable adolescent girls with knowledge, skills, and leadership tools to champion efforts against child marriage and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Apart from being empowered to educate their peers with accurate information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), the girls have also been empowered to refer cases of child marriage and SGBV to the appropriate authorities such as community leaders, including chiefs, assembly members, and the police, for appropriate action. Under the Promoting Adolescent Safe Spaces (PASS) initiative, the move is part of a global programme supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) aimed at ending child marriage....

NGO commissions renovated classroom block for Tegbi-Ashiata Basic school 

Tegbi-Ashiata Basic School in the Anloga Municipality of the Volta region has received a major boost to its infrastructure with the commissioning of a renovated three-unit classroom block by a Germany based non-governmental organisation (NGO), 'Woezor Elena Haasen Library,' dedicated to promoting education and literacy in rural communities.  The renovated classroom block project, worth thousands of cedis, was aimed at boosting and providing quality teaching and learning under a conducive environment for both teachers and students of Tegbi-Ashiata Basic School for better results.  Dr Christian Haasen, the Co-Founder of the NGO, during the commissioning ceremony at the Tegbi-Ashiata basic school, reiterated the organization's commitment to supporting education in rural communities...

Women leadership: NGO builds capacity of influencers to lead advocacy

The Africa Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (AfCHuRSD), a gender-sensitive Non-governmental Organisation, has appealed to community-level influencers to lead the advocacy for women’s participation in leadership roles at all levels of society. It said some women had the capabilities, qualifications, and competence to take up leadership roles, but needed encouragement and support to present themselves for such opportunities and responsibilities. Madam Bernice Naah, the Executive Director of AfCHuRSD, made the appeal at Nadowli during a capacity-building workshop for community-level influencers to empower them to lead female leadership advocacy in their communities.
