Police Restore Calm After Rival Factions Clash at Sampa Main Market
Calm has returned to the town of Sampa in the Bono Region after a violent clash between two rival groups, Sammordua and Samgba Gyafla, left parts of the main market in flames and several people injured on Sunday, October 5.
The Bono Regional Police Command confirmed that officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call about heavy gunfire between the factions. The confrontation reportedly led to the burning of several stores in the busy market area.
Police personnel, who rushed in to restore order and escort a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman to the hospital, came under fire during the operation. Their service vehicle, with registration number GP 686, was forced off the road into a ditch amid the exchange of gunfire.
