Police Launch Investigation Into Fatal Armed Robbery on Zebilla–Widnaba Road

The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an armed robbery incident on the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku area that led to the death of a police officer on duty.

According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, 8 February 2026, when two officers travelling toward Zebilla reportedly encountered an ongoing robbery attack near Widnaba. The suspected robbers allegedly opened fire on the officers, fatally injuring one of them.

A reinforcement team responding to a distress call rushed the injured officer to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending preservation and autopsy.

Police authorities say a special operation is currently underway to identify and apprehend all suspects involved so they can face the full rigours of the law.
