Police arrest five more suspects in Asemkor murder case

The Western Regional Police Command has intensified its investigation into the gruesome murder of John Abban at Asemkor in the Agona Nkwanta District, arresting five additional suspects believed to be connected to the crime.

According to a police statement, the latest arrests were made at various hideouts across the region. On Thursday, October 23, 2025, police apprehended Kwabena Asirifi, 50, at his hideout in the Ampataano community near Asemkor.

Subsequently, on Friday, October 24, 2025, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate picked up three more suspects — James Eshun alias Abeiku, 25, Joseph Aidoo alias Moree, 45, and Stephen Nyame alias Joe, 18 — at Abuesi in the Shama District.

The arrests follow the earlier detention of Kwabena Musah, 55, who was nabbed on October 18, 2025, at Ahuntumano near Butre in the Agona Nkwanta District. He was arraigned before court along with Kennedy Abor alias Abongo, 30, Kojo Attah Panyi, 20, Joseph Basses, 30, Abraham Cudjoe alias Yalle, 39, and Ekow Painstil, 45, who were arrested between October 15 and 21, 2025.

All the suspects have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on October 30, 2025.

It will be recalled that the deceased, John Abban, who was the brother of the chiefs of Butre and Asemkor, was attacked and murdered on October 6, 2025, at Asemkor following a chieftaincy dispute.

Police say the suspects fled the town after the incident and went into hiding until the recent arrests. Investigations are still ongoing to ensure that all persons involved face justice.
