Kpeshie Lagoon restoration begins after demolition of illegal structures in Accra

The government has directed the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) to begin the ecological restoration of reclaimed sections of the Kpeshie Lagoon following the demolition of illegal structures within the wetland’s protected buffer zone.
Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stan Xoese Dogbe, issued the directive at Laboma after the demolition exercise was carried out by the Post Flood Mitigation Task Force as part of measures to restore flood-control infrastructure and protect critical water retention areas in Greater Accra.
The restoration programme was expected to involve the Forestry Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
