The Ministry of Health has inaugurated the newly reconstituted National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG-Ghana), marking a significant step toward strengthening evidence-based vaccine policies and enhancing national health protection.
At the brief inauguration ceremony, officials from the Ministry emphasized that the reconstitution of NITAG-Ghana forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure that decisions on immunization are guided by the most reliable scientific data and global best practices. The group is expected to provide independent, expert advice on immunization strategies, vaccine introduction, and priority-setting for public health interventions.
According to the Ministry, the newly constituted team brings together specialists in epidemiology, public health, infectious diseases, pediatrics, immunology, and related fields. Their mandate includes reviewing emerging scientific evidence, monitoring disease trends, and advising on the effective rollout of vaccines across the country.

The Ministry of Health underscored the importance of NITAG-Ghana’s work in the wake of global health challenges and the continued need to protect communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. Strengthening the advisory body is expected to enhance Ghana’s preparedness and response capacity, especially in periods of public health emergencies.
With the inauguration complete, NITAG-Ghana is set to begin its advisory duties immediately, working closely with the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), the Ghana Health Service, and other stakeholders to support national health security.
