Minority Caucus Seeks Information on Petition for Removal of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has formally written to the Presidency requesting information on the current status of a petition calling for the removal of Supreme Court Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The request, made under Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 18 of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989), was signed by Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Esq.), Second Deputy Minority Whip.

In the letter, the Minority sought clarification on the progress of the petition submitted by Mr. Gbandi Nabin Yussif, titled “Petition for the Removal of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie from Office on Grounds of Stated Misbehaviour Pursuant to Article 146(1) of the Constitution.”

According to the Minority, the petition — dated October 6, 2025 — was received at the Office of the President on October 7, 2025, with proof of acknowledgment attached to their request.

The Minority Caucus specifically requested the following details from the Presidency:

  1. The current status or progress of the petition.
  2. Whether the matter has been referred to the Council of State, as required under the Constitution.
  3. Any actions taken or decisions made by the Council of State concerning the petition.

The request further highlighted the urgency of the matter in light of the ongoing nomination and impending vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.

“We wish to specifically emphasize the importance of addressing this matter expeditiously to maintain transparency and accountability within our democratic institutions,” the Minority stated.

The Caucus is therefore seeking a copy of any investigative report or decision related to the petition before Parliament proceeds with the vetting process.

The Minority invoked the constitutional right to information to ensure transparency and due process in the handling of the petition and to safeguard public confidence in Ghana’s judiciary.
