Ken Agyapong Expresses Sympathy, Calls for Urgent Reforms After Adum Fire Outbreak

Businessman and public figure Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has expressed deep sorrow following a devastating fire outbreak that ravaged multiple shops in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region. The blaze has left several traders and their families in distress after losing their businesses and livelihoods.

In a press release issued from abroad, Agyapong extended his heartfelt sympathies to the victims, acknowledging the emotional and financial toll such incidents bring. “At a time when people are striving to rebuild their businesses, such a setback is truly heartbreaking,” the statement read. “You are not alone—we stand together as one nation.”

Highlighting his own background as a businessman, Agyapong emphasized the immense dedication and sacrifice it takes to build a business. He lamented the tragic loss, describing it as painful beyond words, and offered solidarity with the affected traders.

Ken Agyapong also used the opportunity to call for immediate and concrete action to prevent future market fires, which have become increasingly common in Ghana. He urged the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and other relevant agencies to collaborate in developing long-term solutions. He stressed the need for safer markets, better emergency access, and more reliable fire prevention systems, stating that “protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future.”

Though currently outside the country, Agyapong has dispatched a team to assess the situation and offer support on his behalf. He pledged to personally visit the affected areas, including the Adum market, upon his return to meet with victims and discuss the way forward.

In a message of encouragement to the people of Kejetia, Adum, Dr. Mensah, and Roman Hill, he urged them not to lose hope. “Ghana is strong because of its people, and together, we will rebuild,” he said. “Let us unite, support one another, and work to prevent such tragedies in the future.”

The statement, signed by spokesperson Kwaku Amoh-Darteh, concluded with a prayer for strength and comfort for all those affected, reinforcing Agyapong’s commitment to standing with the victims in this challenging time.
