The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for applicants seeking Ghanaian citizenship under the “Historic Diaspora Community” initiative.
According to the Ministry, the vetting exercise will begin on February 11, 2026, at the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre in Cantonments, Accra. Applicants will be invited in batches and are advised to wait for official notification regarding their specific vetting schedule before visiting the centre to prevent overcrowding.
Officials acknowledged the high level of interest in the initiative, noting that the large number of applicants and the limited timeframe ahead of the planned ceremonial swearing-in on March 5, 2026, means not all interested individuals may participate in this initial phase.

Despite this, the Ministry assured prospective applicants that the citizenship application process remains open. Interested persons can continue to register online via the Ministry’s e-services portal, stressing that no qualified applicant will be disadvantaged.
The Government of Ghana reiterated its commitment to strengthening ties with the global African diaspora by granting Ghanaian citizenship to all eligible applicants as part of its broader diaspora engagement strategy.
For further clarification or enquiries, applicants can contact the Ministry of the Interior through email at e-services@mint.gov.gh.
