The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-powered delegation to Bawku following a violent clash between some youth and the police that left one person dead and several others injured.
The delegation, which includes officers from operations, investigations, and intelligence units, is in the Upper East town to gain first-hand insight into the security situation and to assess the needs on the ground.
The violence, which erupted on April 9, 2025, resulted in the tragic death of Fuseini Iddrisu. Five others, including a police officer and an immigration officer, sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment.

In the aftermath of the clash, two police vehicles and a rented police accommodation at Binduri were damaged. Additionally, homes of some police officers in the area were vandalized.
The Ghana Police Service, working in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, has since restored calm to Bawku. Security has been intensified in the town and surrounding communities, with joint military and police patrols ongoing.
As part of his visit, the IGP is expected to commiserate with the family of the deceased, visit the injured victims in hospital, and engage with officers who suffered property losses due to the violence.
The Police Service has assured the public of its continued collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to maintain peace, law, and order in Bawku.
