The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has taken swift disciplinary action against six of its officers after a video showing alleged gross misconduct went viral on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred on 25th November 2025 at the Offinso Inland Checkpoint, located in the Ashanti Region, where the officers were on duty conducting routine security checks on commercial vehicles.
In the widely circulated footage, the officers were seen verbally confronting and insulting a senior officer, who had identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) and was travelling as a passenger in a commercial vehicle at the time.

Conduct Below Standard
According to a statement issued by GIS management, the officers’ actions — described as being marked by verbal assault, lack of civility, and public disrespect for authority — fall significantly below the Service’s core standards of professionalism and discipline.
The GIS emphasised that such behaviour is “unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” especially given the institution’s ongoing commitment to enforcing decorum, respect, and integrity among its ranks.
Clear Breach of Code
The Service confirmed that the officers’ conduct represents a direct violation of the Ghana Immigration Service Code of Conduct, which strictly upholds respect for authority, integrity, and professionalism as central pillars of its mandate.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) has since reiterated that any actions that undermine the credibility and values of the Service will face “decisive and lawful consequences.”
Investigations Ongoing
Management has launched a formal investigation into the matter in line with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2245), and has assured the public that further disciplinary measures, if necessary, will be applied upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
Public Apology & Assurance
The Ghana Immigration Service has expressed regret for the embarrassment caused to the senior officer and the general public, issuing an apology for any discomfort or inconvenience triggered by the incident.
GIS also reassured Ghanaians of its “unwavering resolve to uphold accountability, professionalism, and national security” in the discharge of its duties across all checkpoints nationwide.
Next Steps
The Service stated that updates will be communicated as investigations progress and remains committed to restoring public confidence through enforcement of strict internal oversight and discipline.
