The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition for four selected schools within the area as part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations. The Reverend Dunwell Methodist Junior High School (JHS), Rev Grant Methodist JHS, Rev Cobbah Yalley JHS and Nana Brempong Yaw III Memorial JHS Complex participated in the contest. Professor Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, the Vice Chancellor of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University for Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), has asked university students to be discipline and adopt positive attitudes towards life. He said the future of the country rested on their shoulders and they could not fail, therefore it was important for them to adopt attitudes that would make them useful to themselves, their families, the country as a whole. Government will ensure academic freedom in tertiary institutions- Education Minister

KNUST Student Found Dead on Campus, Investigation Underway

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is mourning the tragic loss of a student after her lifeless body was discovered on campus in the early hours of February 27, 2025. According to a statement released by the university’s management, KNUST Security Services received a report at approximately 5:00 a.m. regarding a deceased female near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre. The body was swiftly transported to the University Health Services, where medical personnel confirmed her passing. COHBS demand immediate payment of responsibility allowance arrears by March

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) in the Volta Region has called on the government to settle all outstanding responsibility allowance arrears for headteachers by the end of March 2025. At a press conference in Ho, Mr Vincent Gordor Stephen, the Volta Regional Chairman of COHBS, said he was worried that nearly one-third of headteachers in the region have been denied their rightful allowances for years, significantly affecting their morale and commitment. “It is unacceptable that headteachers, who bear the heavy responsibility of managing schools, are being denied their due allowances.
