The Chalk Talk Foundation-Africa, in partnership with the Youth Association, has launched its ‘2025 Prodigy Examination’ aimed at preparing final-year basic pupils for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The programme which was on the theme “The Dream Ghanaian Child,” is to identify and recognise exceptionally gifted pupils in Tema, encourage and motivate learners to strive for academic excellence, and raise a Ghanaian child who is confident, a problem-solver, a critical thinker, and a good communicator.
Mrs. Bernice Sefakor Doviah, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Tema Metro, stated that the initiative was to nurture individuals who would be ready to thrive and change the world through learning.
Mrs. Doviah mentioned that pupils must move beyond rote learning to be able to analyse and evaluate questions.
She called on stakeholders to provide space for pupils and students to explore and experiment with their unique ideas, advising that they should work in teams and learn how to embrace and respect each other’s culture due to diversity.
She emphasised that digital literacy was no longer optional but a necessity; therefore, students must be equipped with skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly use technology.
She advised that all stakeholders, especially parents and teachers, critically monitor the learners to avoid distractions.
Mr. Richard Kwabena Nsarko, the Executive Director of the Chalk Talk Foundation-Africa, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the programme was carried out annually to prepare JHS final-year pupils adequately as they awaited their first external examination.
He stated that it was important for the community to collaborate with educational organisations and non-governmental organisations to improve education in the country.
He mentioned that lack of finances and parental guidance were some of the challenges children faces, especially in Tema Newton, where most of the parents do not value education much compared to other communities where education is placed on a higher level.
He encouraged parents to be involved in their children’s education by providing basic educational materials, attending PTA meetings, paying their school fees, and showing them love.
He emphasised that organisations and businesses could contribute to the dreams and aspirations of children by fulfilling their corporate social responsibility.
