Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has visited the Accra New Town Experimental School following the collapse of a multi-storey building on the premises, describing the response by emergency services as commendable while calling for stricter adherence to building regulations.
During the visit on Monday morning, the Vice President received a detailed briefing on the incident. She was accompanied by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, as well as personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, including the 48 Engineer Regiment, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service, and the National Disaster Management Organisation.
According to officials, a total of 23 victims were rescued from the debris, while three people sadly lost their lives. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to fully clear the site over the coming days.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang also praised members of the local community for their swift action, noting that they served as first responders and played a crucial role in the early stages of the rescue effort.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, she extended condolences to the bereaved families and commended the coordinated efforts of all emergency services involved.
She stressed the need for authorities to move beyond emergency response and tackle the underlying causes of such tragedies, highlighting the importance of strict compliance with building regulations and accountability at all levels.
Following her visit to the site, the Vice President proceeded to the 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital, where victims are receiving treatment. At the Police Hospital, she was received by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
She also visited injured victims at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where she was joined by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The Vice President assured victims and their families of the government’s full support during this difficult period.
