The Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has officially opened the 74th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), hosted in Ghana this year.
Addressing delegates at the ceremony, the Vice President commended member governments for their sustained commitment to WAEC, describing it as one of the most effective examples of regional cooperation in West Africa. She noted that the Council continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the human capital of participating countries while maintaining high standards in education.
She emphasized the need for WAEC to preserve its credibility and integrity, particularly in tackling examination malpractice. According to her, addressing the issue requires a collective effort involving schools, communities, and all relevant stakeholders, in line with the President’s broader call to safeguard societal values.

As part of the event, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang presented awards to outstanding candidates from the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates. Notably, the top three awardees were young Ghanaian women, whose academic excellence she said reflects the nation’s potential and future promise.

She congratulated the awardees, as well as their parents, teachers, and communities, urging other students to draw inspiration from their achievements and strive for excellence.
Reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to quality education, the Vice President stated that the country will continue to collaborate closely with WAEC to strengthen assessment systems, protect the integrity of examinations, and ensure that educational outcomes meet global standards in support of national and regional development.
