The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of Mr. Eric Obeng Darko, the former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School. The suspects have been identified as 38-year-old Mubarak Mohammed and 48-year-old Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah.
According to police reports, the arrests were made on June 9 and June 17, 2025. The suspects were subsequently arraigned before the district courts at Kodie and Suame, respectively.
Fake Gold Ritual Scam Turns Deadly

Preliminary investigations revealed that in 2024, Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah deceived the deceased by claiming she could unearth ancient family gold buried on his property. She allegedly collected an undisclosed sum of money from Mr. Darko under the guise of helping him retrieve and purify the supposed gold.
As part of the scam, the prophetess, accompanied by Mubarak Mohammed, visited the deceased’s residence at Bampenase near Mamponteng. There, they reportedly dug up 20 pieces of a yellowish substance, claiming it was raw gold that required spiritual purification at her church before it could be used or sold.
However, when Mr. Darko attempted to follow up on the process, Prophetess Darkwah allegedly avoided all contact. Investigators believe she later conspired with Mubarak Mohammed and three other accomplices—currently at large—to eliminate Mr. Darko before he could reach her church.
Murder Plot and Cover-up
Mr. Darko was reportedly abducted and taken to Aboabugya, where he tried to escape but was tragically run over and killed by a Honda Odyssey vehicle driven by suspect Mubarak Mohammed.
Both suspects are now in police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on July 4, 2025. Police are actively pursuing the remaining three suspects believed to be involved in the murder.
Police Assure Public of Justice
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Agbodzi, Acting Regional Public Affairs Director of the Ashanti North Region, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigations.
“The Police are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all suspects involved in this heinous crime are brought to book,” he stated.
