Two Armed Robbers Sentenced to 15 Years Imprisonment in Kumasi



The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the successful conviction and sentencing of two armed robbers involved in a violent home invasion and robbery incident that took place in Atonsu Kuwait, Kumasi.

The convicts, Abass Kasim (26) and Daniel Morro, popularly known as “China” (25), were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each by the Kumasi Circuit Court 4 on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after being found guilty on multiple charges including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, unlawful entry, abetment of crime, and possession of firearms without authority. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The Attack

According to the police, the incident occurred on July 31, 2021, at about 2:30 a.m. when the convicts, together with three accomplices still at large, launched a violent attack on a resident at his home in Atonsu Kuwait. Armed with a pistol and cutlasses, the gang shot the victim in the abdomen, inflicted multiple cutlass wounds, and robbed him of various valuables.

Stolen Items

The items stolen during the raid included:

  • One iPhone 11 valued at GHS 5,500
  • One Samsung mobile phone valued at GHS 500
  • Two Apple Watches valued at GHS 3,000
  • Two M.K. ladies’ handbags
  • An unspecified quantity of jewellery
  • 600 US Dollars
  • An unspecified amount of Ghana Cedis

Arrest and Prosecution

Police investigations led to the arrest of Abass Kasim on August 12, 2021. During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the crime and subsequently assisted the police in arresting his accomplice, Daniel Morro. A pistol used in the attack was later retrieved by investigators.

The two were arraigned before court on August 19, 2021, and were remanded into custody after initially pleading not guilty. After a prolonged legal process, the court found them guilty and handed down the sentences.

The convicts have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their prison terms.

Police Assurances

In a press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the police commended the efforts of investigators and assured the public of their continued commitment to combating violent crime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
