Police Restore Calm After Violent Student Protest at Tamale Technical University

The Northern Regional Police Command has restored calm at the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) following a violent student protest on Tuesday morning. According to police, intelligence indicated that around 9:00 a.m., about 500 students massed in front of the school’s administration block to stage an unlawful demonstration. The protest escalated when students set vehicle tyres ablaze at key locations, including the main entrance of the school from the Tamale Secondary School (TAMASCO) direction, the Police Post at Kpalsi, and directly in front of the administration block. Activista Ghana intensifies campaign on youth participation in community development

Savelugu: Police Arrest Three For Alleged Weapon Smuggling

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of smuggling weapons in Savelugu, following an intelligence-led operation. The suspects—Gaba Abdallah Alhassan, Alhassan Abdallah, and Alhassan Abdul Kudus—were apprehended on May 1, 2025, at various hideouts within the area. A two-day training workshop for selected officers of various security agencies in the Northern Region has been held in Tamale. It was organised by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), an International NGO, in collaboration with the National Peace Council, under the Prevention of Violent Extremism Through Social Accountability (PoVETSA) phase II project, with funding support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
