Manhyia Palace Issues Safety Directives Ahead of Asantehemaa’s Final Funeral Rites

The Manhyia Palace has released a public announcement reminding chiefs, traditional leaders, and members of the public attending the final burial rites (Dote Yie) of the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa (1927–2025), to strictly comply with safety regulations put in place for the ceremony scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025. According to the announcement, the use of live ammunition has been strictly prohibited during the event. However, the firing of muskets, a long-standing traditional practice, will be permitted under one condition: they must be discharged only into the sky, and not directed at any individual or towards the ground. KNUST to Suspend Academic and Commercial Activities on September 18 in Honour of Late Asantehemaa

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced that it will suspend work and all commercial activities on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in compliance with a directive from the Manhyia Palace. The directive, issued by the Palace, calls for the closure of shops, schools, and corporate institutions in Kumasi as part of arrangements for the final burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Manhyia Palace Bans All Funerals in Asanteman on August 21

The Manhyia Palace has announced a ban on all funerals across Asanteman on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to enable the Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Asanteman to observe the One Week Celebration of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. The Asantehene officially informed the Asanteman Council of the Queen Mother’s passing on Monday, August 11, 2025. Nana Konadu Yiadom III died peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025. The One Week Celebration will take place at Bogyawe, Manhyia Palace, from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. on the same day. The notice, signed by Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, urged the general public to comply with the directive in honour of the late Queen Mother.

Asantehene Announces Passing of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally announced the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, bringing an era of dedicated service to Asanteman to a close. Speaking at an Asanteman Council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 11, the Asantehene confirmed that the revered queen mother passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 91. The one-week observance for the late Asantehemaa will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in line with Ashanti tradition. Nana Konadu Yiadom III ascended the stool in 2017 at the age of 83, succeeding her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who passed away in 2016 after a remarkable 39-year reign.
