Police arrest 16 suspects for illegal mining at Manso Adubia

The Ghana Police Service has arrested sixteen (16) suspects during an anti-illegal mining operation at Essuminya and Apraprama Forest Reserves in the Ashanti Region. The joint operation, conducted on 19th June 2025, involved personnel drawn from the National Police Headquarters and the Manso Adubia District. The team embarked on the operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities within the forest reserves. During the operation, sixteen suspects were arrested while actively engaging in illegal mining activities. Police Update on fight against illegal mining: 99 Excavators retrieved, 208 suspects arrested

The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey) operations. From March 2025 to date, the Service has conducted a series of targeted operations in communities affected by illegal mining activities. So far, 208 suspects have been arrested, including eight (8) Chinese nationals. In the course of these operations, police have retrieved eighty-five (85) excavators and three (3) bulldozers believed to have been used in the illegal mining operations. Notable among the efforts is a special anti-galamsey operation in the Western Region, particularly at Samreboi, along the Tano River, Wassa Dunkwa, Tigarikrom, and surrounding communities. The Western Central Regional Police Command has arraigned seven individuals before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi on charges related to illegal mining activities. The accused—identified as Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto alias Agorogo, Kwadwo George alias Sergio, and Emmanuel Van alias Atta—have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and engaging in mining operations without a valid license. Cease all mining activities in, around water bodies now -EPA cautions miners

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Tuesday issued a directive to all individuals and entities involved in illegal mining (galamsey) in and near water bodies to cease with immediate effect. The directive is in accordance with Section 2 and 3b(ii) of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124), the EPA said in a statement signed by its acting Chief Executive Officer, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse. The directive it said applied to all unauthorised mining activities. Hence, the EPA, Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology, Minerals Commission, Water Resources Commission and the relevant security agencies would seize equipment used in illegal mining operations in line with applicable laws.
