Cape Coast to Experience Planned Power Outage on January 8 for Major Substation Upgrade

Residents of Cape Coast and surrounding communities in the Central Region will experience a planned power outage on Thursday, January 8, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply reliability in the area. According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo), the interruption in power supply will occur from 6:00am to 10:00pm. The outage is necessary to enable GRIDCo engineers to replace an existing 33MVA transformer at the Cape Coast Substation with a new, higher-capacity 66MVA transformer. Damage on transmission line plunges Sogakope into darkness….GRIDCo assures residents of swift restoration

Residents of Sogakope and its surrounding communities were left without power on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following damage to a key transmission line serving the area. In a statement issued by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the incident occurred at 16:01 hours, causing a power outage that has affected several communities connected to the Sogakope supply network. According to GRIDCo, its line maintenance team has already been mobilised to assess and repair the damage in order to restore power as soon as possible. Sunyani traders, mechanics in despair, as GRIDCo demolishes their shops  

Some market women and mechanics around the Nana Bosoma Central Market enclave in the Sunyani Municipality, have appealed for support, as the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) evacuates them from its transmission lines in the market enclave.   Their appeals followed a massive decongestion exercise undertaken by the GRIDCo on Tuesday September 16, 2025, putting most of them in a state of despair.   During a visit to the enclave, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that almost all the shops, stores and structures along the GRIDCo’s high tension transmission lines in the enclave had been demolished.   The GNA noticed that some of the affected traders and mechanics were anxiously picking their belongings and working tools from the debris as some fully armed police personn...
