President Mahama Nominates Five Experts to Ghana’s Fiscal Council to Strengthen Public Financial Management

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five distinguished professionals for appointment to Ghana’s Fiscal Council, in accordance with Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended.

The move is aimed at reinforcing fiscal discipline, improving oversight, and promoting prudent public financial management in Ghana.

The nominees are Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah (proposed Chairperson), Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming, Leslie Dwight Mensah, J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah. The group brings together extensive expertise spanning academia, economic policy, research, and financial governance.

According to the Presidency, the diverse professional backgrounds of the nominees are expected to strengthen the Council’s capacity to provide independent guidance on fiscal policy and ensure sound decision-making in the management of public resources.

The Fiscal Council is expected to play a critical role in safeguarding macroeconomic stability by enhancing transparency, promoting fiscal responsibility, and advising on sustainable budgetary practices.

Once constituted, the Council will support government efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and strengthen confidence in Ghana’s public financial management framework.
