The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an incident in which officers from the Jacobu District Patrol Team were attacked by a group of civilians while carrying out routine patrol duties at Bepotenten Sukuum.
The incident occurred on 23rd January 2026, when police officers on patrol recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy. According to the Police, the officers instructed the boy to inform the owner of the firearm to report to the police station with the necessary and valid documents for verification.
However, while the patrol team was returning from the operation, they were confronted by a large crowd estimated at about 100 people, who reportedly blocked the road. The crowd was said to be armed with cutlasses and firearms. In the ensuing chaos, the group allegedly assaulted the police officers and forcefully seized a service rifle belonging to one of the officers.

During the confrontation, police responded to the threat, resulting in the shooting of the individual who had taken the service rifle, while another person sustained injuries. The Police later confirmed that the service rifle was successfully retrieved.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and reiterated its warning to the public against assaults on law enforcement officers. The Command emphasized that any individuals involved in such acts will be pursued, arrested, and made to face the full rigours of the law.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
