The Accra Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a motorbike theft syndicate following the arrest of a key suspect believed to be linked to a string of motorbike thefts reported across the region in recent weeks.
The arrest follows a report filed on June 24, 2025, by a resident of Madina, who disclosed that his red Royal motorbike, registered M-25-CW 367, had been stolen overnight while parked in his home.
Acting swiftly on intelligence, a police team apprehended Emmanuel Akanpatiba, who was found in possession of the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, Akanpatiba admitted to the crime and named his accomplice, Israel Fredrick Lomotey, who is currently on the run.

Further investigations have revealed that the two, along with others, are behind at least twelve motorbike thefts across major suburbs, including Madina, Adenta, Lapaz, and Teshie, over the past month. Akanpatiba also identified individuals known as Nurudeen, Ali, and Inusah — all based at the Agbogbloshie Onion Market — as the regular receivers of the stolen motorbikes.
According to police sources, the suspect confessed to breaking the steering locks of motorbikes before transporting them to Agbogbloshie, where they were sold for amounts ranging between GHS 2,000 and GHS 3,000, depending on the age and model of the vehicle.
Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining accomplices, and efforts are ongoing to recover additional stolen motorbikes.
The Accra Regional Police Command is urging the public to properly secure their motorbikes and valuables, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activities. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects or stolen motorbikes is encouraged to contact the Police on 18555 or 192.
