Kasoa Peace Town Residents Demand Increased Police Patrols Amid Rising Daytime Burglaries

Residents of Peace Town, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, are calling on the Ghana Police Service and municipal authorities to increase police patrols in the area following a rise in daytime home burglaries and stealing incidents.

According to residents, most of the criminal activities take place during working hours, particularly between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., when many homeowners have left for work, leaving their houses vulnerable.

Speaking to this reporter, Madam Comfort Mensah, a resident of Peace Town for the past six years, said the situation has become worrying.

“These days, when you go to work and come back, you pray before opening your door. Thieves break into houses in the afternoon because they know people are not around. We hardly see police patrols during the day,” she said.

Another resident, Mr. Kwaku Asiedu, a mason, noted that burglars often disguise themselves as workers to avoid suspicion.

“Some of them pretend to be plumbers or ECG workers. Because of that, people don’t question them. By the time neighbours realize something is wrong, the thieves are gone,” he explained.

Miss Abigail Asare, a hairdresser who lives near the main Peace Town road, also shared her experience after her neighbour’s house was recently burgled.

“They broke into the house around noon and stole a television set and cooking items. If there was police patrol in the area, such things wouldn’t happen easily,” she stated.

Residents say the increasing incidents have created fear, especially among working-class families, and are affecting their peace of mind.

They are therefore appealing for regular police patrols during the day, the establishment of more police visibility points, and closer collaboration between the police and community watchdog groups.

“We are ready to cooperate and give information, but we need the police to be present and active in the community,” Mr. Asiedu added.

The residents are urging the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly and the Kasoa Divisional Police Command to treat the matter with urgency to prevent the situation from escalating.

In the meantime, some households in Peace Town have resorted to installing extra locks, security lights, and forming neighbourhood watch groups as temporary measures to protect their homes.
