Voting is progressing in Sunyani as Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) elects national and regional executives to steer the affairs for the next three years.
In all 27 members of the association drawn from the Bono and Ahafo Regions are expected to cast their ballots in the election underway at the Bono Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) and being supervised by the commission.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency ((GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah, the GJA’s Election Officer for the Bono Region said voting commenced around 0820 hours.
Describing the electoral process as smooth, he said he was hopeful that the election would be conducted peacefully.
Mr Asirifi Young, the Bono Regional Director of the EC, earlier took agents of some of the candidates and some observers through the electoral process. During a visit around 1000hours, only eight members of the association had cast their ballot.
Meanwhile, the four candidates who filed their nominations for the regional position are contesting the election unopposed.
They comprise Mrs Regina Benneh Siaw, an Editor at Bono Regional Office of the GNA going for the Regional Chairperson position and Mr Dennis Peprah, Bono Regional Manager, GNA, Vice Chairperson.
Others were Mr Imoro Ayibani, the Bono Regional Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), Secretary and Mr Daniel Dayee, the Bono Regional Correspondent of the Daily Guide Newspaper, Treasurer.
