The Ashanti Region marked Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary with a large-scale clean-up exercise that drew thousands of volunteers, reflecting a strong sense of patriotism and civic responsibility. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, praised the commitment of all participants in tackling waste and restoring cleanliness across the region.
Despite concerns over the volume of filth in certain areas, the Minister noted that the enthusiasm and teamwork demonstrated by local residents, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the Security Services, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Zoomlion, volunteer groups, students and teachers, Kumawood actors, political parties, and traditional authorities (“Nananom”) were instrumental in the success of the exercise.
“This effort must not end here,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized. He announced a follow-up clean-up operation slated for tomorrow in Alabar. In addition, the Minister has called an urgent meeting with Alabar’s community leaders, Assemblyman, Unit Committee members, and landowners to address issues of blocked drains and indiscriminate dumping. Strict measures will be enforced to maintain environmental standards and ensure a cleaner region moving forward.

Dr. Amoakohene urged all citizens to remain vigilant and responsible, reminding the public that “a cleaner Ashanti is a healthier Ashanti.” He commended the collective effort shown during the anniversary and encouraged continued collaboration to preserve the region’s environment.
