The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has strongly denied circulating allegations that he was present near a polling booth in the Effutu Constituency to influence voters and compromise ballot secrecy.
In a statement issued on the day of voting, the MP described the claims as entirely false, insisting they are a deliberate distortion of facts aimed at undermining his integrity and the credibility of the ongoing electoral process.
According to Hon. Afenyo-Markin, the allegation is the latest in a series of what he termed orchestrated attacks by political adversaries since the start of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer contest. He cited a previously circulated manipulated video that falsely suggested he failed to applaud a candidate during the signing of a peace pact at the Alisa Hotel on January 22, 2026, describing such actions as “transparent and desperate tactics.”

The Minority Leader emphasized that throughout the process he has strictly adhered to all Electoral Commission (EC) regulations and party leadership guidelines. He categorically stated that at no point was he near any voting area as alleged, nor did he engage in any conduct that could be construed as undue influence.
“My presence in the constituency today has been limited strictly to exercising my franchise and undertaking lawful oversight in full compliance with the rules that govern us all,” the statement noted.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin further called on key stakeholders — including the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and political actors — to prioritize peace, transparency, and democratic integrity. He warned that misinformation and “crass fabrications” only serve to sow discord and erode public confidence in the electoral process.
He also invited members of the public, journalists, and media organizations to visit Winneba and independently observe proceedings on the ground, stressing that truth and transparency remain the strongest safeguards against falsehood.
“The members and supporters of the great NPP deserve better,” he said, urging all parties to desist from spreading misinformation and allow the electoral exercise to proceed unhindered.
The statement comes amid heightened political activity surrounding the NPP’s internal elections, with party leaders repeatedly calling for calm and adherence to democratic principles.
