Upper West Police Intensify Security After Robbery and Abduction Reports at Kendeu

The Upper West Regional Police Command has launched enhanced security operations following disturbing reports of robbery and abduction in the Kendeu community of the Wa West District.

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, at approximately 2:00pm, police received a report that a gang of armed young men had attacked road users near the Kendeu community, robbing them of money, mobile phones, and other valuables. The attackers also reportedly assaulted and robbed market women who were travelling along the same route, leaving several victims traumatized.

In response, a joint team of police and military personnel was swiftly deployed to the area. The coordinated operation led to the arrest of ten (10) suspects, while others fled into nearby bushes to evade capture.

During the operation, security personnel retrieved five (5) locally manufactured guns, twenty-five (25) live AA cartridges, two (2) spent cartridges, two (2) knives, and several spiritual talismans believed to belong to the suspects. All exhibits have been secured by investigators.

Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspects had allegedly abducted two victims earlier in the day. The victims have been identified as John Gaan and Dari Moses Dondomor, who, along with their belongings, are yet to be located. Police have established contact with complainants and community members, who are actively assisting in the investigation.

The arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

The Police Command has also commenced integrated patrols in the Wa West District to deter further attacks and reassure residents. Additionally, engagements with local chiefs and key stakeholders are ongoing to support search efforts for the missing victims and prevent escalation of tensions.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended the professionalism and rapid response of its officers and expressed appreciation for the strong collaboration between the military, other security agencies, and community leaders.

While assuring the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police have urged citizens to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and provide credible information to assist the ongoing search and investigations.
