Unrest at Hamile Border Post Brought Under Control – GIS

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed that disturbances which broke out at the Hamile Border Post in the Upper West Region on Saturday evening have been brought under control.

According to a statement issued by the Service, the incident, which occurred on September 13, 2025, involved some members of the local community and led to tensions at the border area.

Management of the GIS assured the public, particularly residents of Hamile, that calm has since been restored with the support of other relevant security agencies.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has directed a full-scale investigation into the circumstances leading to the unrest. The Service emphasized that appropriate measures will be taken once the outcome of the investigations is known.

“The Service appeals to the public and the community to remain calm and cooperative as the matter is thoroughly investigated. Updates will be provided in due course,” the statement read.

The statement was signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs.
